We aim to make the move from home to nursery as gradual as possible. We do need your help with this and ask you to set aside some time to spend with us when your child is starting in the nursery. We feel this is important for various reasons; for the child to get to know and trust new adults and children, for you to see how the nursery works and to be familiar with the things that your child will talk about at home, and for you to be able to tell us about your child.
To start with we would like you to stay with your child in the nursery. Some children may find a whole session too long at first. When the child is ready (and it will vary greatly from child to child) you will be able to leave your son or daughter and go home for an hour or so, building up the time you leave them for, gradually.
We feel it is important for parents and carers to always tell the child when they are leaving and to say goodbye. Never ‘disappear’ while your child is distracted. They are likely to be shocked and frightened and to have their trust in you shaken. Please don’t get anxious or impatient if the settling in period takes a while. Our experience has shown that it is important not to rush this stage. Below are some documents to support you in the transition from home to nursery, these include our Parent Booklet, information concerning thirty hour provision and the following policies: attendance, behaviour and safeguarding.
