25 May Full Governing Body Meeting Tuesday 24th May 2022

Following our full governing body meeting on Tuesday 24th May please note the following key points from the meeting:

Our Equality Policy and Equality Statement has been updated in line with the work we have been doing on anti-racism

Our Special Educational Needs Policy has been updated.

The nursery school and children’s centre budgets have been ratified.

Lastly; the governor’s would like to express their thanks and best wishes for the following staff who are leaving us : Alan, Hanife, Sara and Thomas.

09 Feb Governing Body News Tuesday 8th February 2022

From our  Full Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 8th February please note the following key points:

We would like to welcome our two new Governors: Siobhain Canney and Tom Gilbert. We very much look forward to working with both of our new governors and am confident they will contribute to the further development of Wentworth Nursery School and Childrens’ Centre.

Our absolute appreciation to Larissa Pople who is stepping down from her role as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Curriculum Committee. Larissa has been immensely supportive and helpful in ensuring children are receiving a high-quality nursery education.

Governors noted the work the school is doing in relation to Super Hero play as a means of enabling children to recognise there are many different types of superheroes including from a range of ethnic and gender backgrounds, as well as super powers including powers to be helpful, kind and thoughtful.

Wentworth Nursery School continues to provide high quality training within and outside of Hackney and is again contributing to a national conference on the subject of high quality early years education.

Lastly; our children were successful in the recent Hackney Education winter poetry competition, where we came first within the early years category!

21 Oct Full Governing Body Meeting Tuesday 19th October 2021

Following our full governing body meeting on Tuesday 19th October please see the key points from our meeting:

We have reviewed our assessment policy to further ensure it is more child centred and less onerous on staff’s time. See the policy here: Assessment policy October 2021

Both the nursery school and children’s centre have enhanced their premises by having new flooring in the children’s centre and new environmentally friendly toilets for our children at the nursery school.

As part of our work of ensuring we are meeting the needs of our community we will be reviewing our extended day and holiday play scheme offers.

20 May Full Governing Body Meeting: Tuesday 18th May 2021

Following our Full Governing Body meeting on Tuesday 18th May, the following key points should be noted.

The children’s toilets in the nursery school will be refurbished over the summer holidays; to provide a more environmental provision for the children of Wentworth.

The children’s Centre was involved in contributing to the Today Programme on Radio 4 with Evan Davis in regards to the possible impact the national pandemic has had on young children’s communication and language development. The Governing Body fully supports the School’s work on race and identity and reiterates the clear message racism will not be tolerated within our organisation.

The school has been providing training to a number of schools in the following areas: race and identity, the new Early Years Curriculum and how young children acquire and develop their vocabulary.

10 Feb Full Governing Body Meeting: Tuesday 9th February 2021

Governor’s noted their thanks to Hannah Gregory one of our parent governors who has provided an excellent rigorous and supportive approach to the school and children centre in its development; who will be resigning from her post at the end of the Spring term. On behalf of all the Governors our thanks to Hannah and wish her and her family all the very best for the future.

Governor’s noted the excellent work the Children’s Centre is doing in supporting children and families within our local community in including the provision of a respite creche to some of our families in addition to a wide array of songs on stories online. 14 Oct Full Governing Body Meeting: Tuesday 13th October 2020

1.  As a school we are focusing on Race and Identity and within this context we are:

• Reviewing our curriculum that reflects diversity through our books, resources and practice.
• Ensuring all children make substantive progress irrespective of their ethnic/cultural background.
• Promoting tolerance and recognition of the values of diversity.

2.  Subject to our budget we are aiming to:

• refurbish the children’s toilets
• create a wild flower meadow in the nursery garden
• enhance the children’s centre garden

3. We are in the process of updating our website, and if parents/carers have thoughts as to what would make the website more effective please contact Ben (Headteacher).

20 May ​Full Governing Body Meeting: Tuesday 19th May 2020

• The Governing Body fully supports the school having a phased return from the 1st June 2020.
• The Governing Body wishes to thank all staff for their hard work during these challenging times relating to Covid 19.
• The school will be planning for the transition of children in consultation with neighbouring primary schools in the latter part of the summer term.

12 Feb Full Governing Body Meeting: Tuesday 11th February 2020

Key points from the meeting were:

Supporting our most disadvantaged  children and families

Governors are keen to ensure all families are able to claim for Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP); which will enable parents to have free school meals as well as help the school buy resources to support all children’s learning. Parents carers are eligible to apply for the EYPP if they are receiving
one of the following benefits:

• Income support
• Income based Job Seekers Allowance
• Income related Employment and Support Allowance
• NASS support
• Guarantee element of State Pension
• Child Tax Credit, provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190
• Working Tax Credit for the four weeks after employment ends
• Universal Credit, provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400

As a thank you to all parents who are eligible for EYPP, the school will be providing a £10.00 Tesco voucher.

Developing Mathematics within in School

The school has been developing our teaching of mathematics through:

• providing high quality training to staff
• workshop for parents on activities they can do with their children at home
• Provision of video reflections for staff

Providing high quality training to schools and settings in and outside of Hackney

Wentworth Nursery School has been involved in contributing to two national conferences in the area of early years education at Birmingham in December 2019 and recently in London February 2020.
